Chosen song
Gatekeeper - Jessie Reyez
I have chosen this song because it protests against the exploitation for women in the performing industry. I think it is an important song to do because it can make young girls aware of the dangers of the industry and how its isn’t their fault. It also has in it, the determination that every girl experiences for an aspiration in her future. It is important that this subject is bought up beach use it continues to be ignored due to it being a male dominated place and therefore is swept under the rug. However, if bought up will alter those to stand up for what is right and to not be passive & submissive. Now, girls body images and appearance is everything and dressing up provocatively is seen as on the way to success. But it is important to protest against these stereos as more women need to be empowered to be themselves and to not be controlled by men who use them for fame & sex.
I chose the artist Jessie Reyez as she regualy sings about issues that need to be exposed and put out there, she is also a relatively small artists which shows how messages dont always have to be broadcasted by big, well known artists. Additionally, the fact that she has gone through and dealt with these issues make it a more personal and emotional.
