The One That Got Away - Katy Perry
For my video I want the featured character to be dwelling on her old traumatised memories of her past experiences & to keep flitting back to the past and the present. In Perry’s video she, as an old woman, is a remembering her young years with an ex lover. You can distinguish between to two, the past more light & the present more monotone & dark. I’d like to apply this to my own video, with the memories being more colourful as she remembers the negatively disguised experiences which she perceived as happy, bout gradually get less saturated as she began to realise the darker side.
In Katy Perry’s music video she ties in links from her memories and present with details that have left a physical mark on her, in this case a tattoo.
I’d like to apply this concept to my video but with other physical details e.g. scars, bruises, cigarette burns, as well as tattoos. These would link with the memories of being out and being easily manipulated into doing things & being abused.
In the music video, Katy as her younger self, is crying in her closet, with a lot of focus on her expression in extreme/close ups.
I’d like to incorporate that into my video a lot of focus into the girls expression of anger, frustration & fear. However, in my video of this particular scene, I would want the girl to be getting ready but being forced to wear provocative clothing & dress like a tart in order to accepted & successful. However at the end of the video decides to stand up against the demands and to be herself and dress like herself.
In the The one that got away music video, Katy appears to interact as her young self & her old self. I would like to incorporate that into the video with the past & present version of the girl looking at one another through a mirror. The reflection being that of her old self at her worst moment, which then persuades the present version to stand up for what is right and to refute her role.
Finally, in the music video, the older present version of Katy sees her ex lover at the spot where he died. I interpreted it as her being almost haunted by the memory and I wanted to apply that to my video. In the scene where she. Is forcing herself to get ready, i want her to be haunted with the people who exploited her and abused her, to represent how the experience has mentally abused her.
I Knew You Were Trouble - Taylor Swift
In this music video, the opening sequence narrative is alongside fast short shots of Taaylor’s memories, mostly dark & cold. This is what i want to incorporate into my music video with the girl’s memories flashing quickly before the audiences eyes, with the dark theme/lighting to signify the danger of her past.
