Original Photos

Image
The leading original photo, used on the homepage of the website is of the artist looking in the mirror at her distorted reflection, paying reference to the music video and substituting the woman. Courtney is dressed in casual loungewear, facing the mirror to the left of the photo, hair in a messy bun and with both hands on the dressing table. Her reflection is dressed in revealing, luxurious clothes with excessive makeup and styled hair. She is obviously crying with mascara tear stains running down her face. The background of the photo is dark, contrasting with Courtney and the mirror who are in exposed lighting. The image above is inspiration for this original photo.    The second original photo is of the shot which references Pulp Fiction in the music video but uses the artist instead of the woman form the video. It is photographed exactly like the cover image for the Pulp Fiction movie poster, but like the video, substitutes the magazines for a mobile phone. Courtney wears...

Draft Treatment

Draft Treatment    The video would appeal to a target audience of young women, 16-29 years old, who either desire career or who are socially aware of female oppression in the entertainment industry. A lot of young women aspire to have said career due to its connotations of luxury and success but are unaware of the dangers that are concealed in order to protect their image. Patriarchy and male dominance is a relevant subject for most young people due to high emphasis on social media, with many women coming forward and sharing their experiences. This video therefore brings awareness to and supports this emerging movement, exposing the true behaviour that prominent entertainment industries attempt to conceal in order to protect their image.    The use of one initial location, the woman’s bedroom, throughout the narrative provides an anchor for the present day shots as well as creating significance for audience, as many see their bedroom as a sanctuary and a place where ...

Statement of Intent

For my coursework I am using the song ‘Gatekeeper’, by Jessie Reyez in order to produce a music video that is relevant to the theme of protest by opposing the exploitation of women in the entertainment industry. This would appeal to the demographic of mainstream 16-25 year olds, especially those who have a desire to peruse a career in acting or music, as it creates awareness for the dark side to the more ‘luxurious’ industry that media presents as being so awe-inspiring. It therefore may also appeal to those in the feminist movement, as it breaks the perfect image that men portray in order to conceal their true actions and intentions. Whilst some may not be a part of this movement, the majority of this demographic will have knowledge and desire to change the inappropriate conduct of men in order to exploit women to their own advantage due to the high emphasis of such issue in young modern culture.    There would be a more niche representation of social groups throughout the mu...

Perfect Audience Member

Brief: Social Conscious, 16-25, middle-upmarket demographic. Mainstream Girls: The video would attract to those who may have aspirations of pursuing a career in the performance industry, or similar ones where good looks & talent lead to success, who therefore need to be informed on the dangers that can occur i.e exploitation, manipulation & sexual harassment. Description: Clothes: The audience would therefore dress very ‘mainstream’, e.g designer/high street brands & makeup, or a high end  ‘Towie’ themed style - similar to what they believe they need to dress like for that career option. Taking the latter style, they would wear skimpy, tight outfits e.g bodycon dresses & heels with an excessive amount of makeup. Diet: Would probably eat normal mainstream food i.e fast food, or eat out. Some however might eat healthy foods, such as salad, in order to maintain the ‘perfect desired’ body shape. Lifestyle: not very promiscuous as they are unaware of the dangers...
